Sand paper letters 2

In the evening Igor took the Sand paper letters form the shelf. He knows all sounds well for a long time. Now we need to get used to the shapes of written cursive alphabet. He's touching is not perfect yet. I mean he does not want to trace them in the proper way, but it does not matter. The most important is he recognizes them properly, names the sounds of letters and tries to trace them as was shown. Few weeks and he will master them.

After tracing we got the idea to start matching the sand paper letters to the movable alphabet. I did not buy the original Montessori alphabet, but one I found in local book shop. Letters are smaller but I am really happy with the type of fonts they represent. It is cursive writing, very similar to the ELEMNTARZ font I used for sand paper letters.  Daria was very helpful this time. She introduced Igor to the sense of this activity and helped controlled his errors specially when "p" was turned upside-down and was read as "d".

In Montessori classroom, there are no grades, gold stars, pizza for reading program, and so on. teacher evaluation is invisible to children, with comments limited to matter-fact notes (e.g. "Need coma here").

Wczoraj naprędce udało mi się przygotować dwa zestawy, aby zaspokoić Igora "głód" do poznawania wszelakich pojazdów. Do tej pory mieliśmy zestaw gdzieś znaleziony w necie, jednak nie było tam samochodów więc nie cieszył się u Igora uznaniem.Trzeba było więc stworzyć własny.

Pierwszy zestaw pozwala rozróżniać wielkość elementów na obrazkach. Na początku możemy prezentować karty stosując 3 stopniową lekcję. Następnie prezentujemy tabelkę z napisami duży, średni, mały i zostawiamy dziecku aby samodzielnie ułożył odpowiedniej kolejności.

Drugi zestaw to dopasowywanie znaczków marek samochodów i jego modeli. Na razie podstawowa wersja z małą ilością marek (te, które Igor wymawia bez problemu). Wkrótce dorobię pozostałe marki, znane mu z ulicy.

Województwa

W tym tygodniu troszkę geografii Polski. Dzieci dostały do rączek, montessoriańskie karty z mapkami polski na których zaznaczone zostały pojedynczo województwa, a następnie dużą mapę w którą można wtykać flagi z nazwami województwa i miasta wojewódzkiego. (Dziękuję bardzo Marcie za natchnienie).

Dopiero się uczymy nazw województw. Omawiamy różnice między poszczególnymi regionami, rodzaje gwar i dialektów. Na przekłuwaną mapkę jeszcze czas nie przyszedł. Wczoraj jakoś spontanicznie przeglądaliśmy flagi państw Europy. Oddzieliliśmy kraje EU od reszty. Wyróżniliśmy sąsiadów Polski, ze szczególną uwagą Ukrainę jako ojczyznę naszej mamy. Jutro może uda się wrócić do kontynentów. Ostatnio w listopadzie chyba poświęciliśmy im trochę czasu.

Human Body Project

In November we started to read the first book from series "100 facts". Daria decided "100 facts on The Human Body". It took us a month to finish. Slowly 3 facts a day in bad time. We discussed a lot as well while reading. Almost all body parts were translated into Polish and Russian to give her wider understanding as that subject has not been covered in schools she had no chance so far to meet the vocabulary. Nevertheless she heard a lot from us but in Polish or Russian. 

In meanwhile I found in local shop other book "The Human Body Project".

It includes:
- 16- page Book

 - A1 Wall Poster

- Stencils

- More than 100 stickers

I found it very interesting as for our purposes. It is written in a language that is understandable for Daria and gives the most knowledge I consider is accurate as for 7- years old girls. 

Daria learned the main human bones. We created the poster using the stencil and pencil. She wrote by herself the names of the bones. 

I photocopied and laminated 3 layer body chart: bones, muscles and skin.

Then I photocopied few pictures of body parts from the first book as they were more clear and created the activities for learning the names.

1. Bones of human skeleton.

3. 5 Senses: Sight, Heating, Smell, Taste and Touch

That day Daria helped me to make those pictures, to cut and laminate them. Unfortunately until today we had no chance to work with them.

Today we wanted to check if Daria remembers any of the work after a month from the day we made the activity. I was really surprised. She did very well. Only few names she dislocated and they were very difficult.

Sand paper letters

This week we are starting with Igor the preparation for writing. I made the sand paper letters by myself. I used Polish font as I consider it the most suitable. Its name is ELEMNTARZ 2 and can be downloaded from the web. I laminated blue and pink paper and glued the cut letters on it. The size is A5.

W tym tygodniu zaczynamy z Igorem ćwiczenia przygotowywujące do pisania. Jednocześnie kontynuujemy grę I spy ... podczas której pytam go na jaka literę zaczyna się dany wyraz lub proszę o pokazanie mi obrazka lub rzeczy podając samemu pierwszą literę.Robimy to zarówno po polsku jak i po angielsku.
Zrobiłem sam litery z papieru ściernego i nakleiłem na zalaminowany karton. Czcionkę jaką użyłem była ELEMENTARZ 2. Ta sama, która spotykamy w podręcznikach do klasy 1. Rozmiar papieru to A5. Nie wykonałem jeszcze wszystkich liter gdyż skończył mi się papier ścierny ale na razie i tak wystarczy. Przymierzam się do ruchomego alfabetu. Mam już alfabet zakupiony w lokalnej księgarni. Brakuje mi tylko pudełka, w którym go posegreguję. O tym będzie później. Teraz kilka przykładów naszych literek.

Picture - Picture and Picture word matching

Igor fell in love with cars and building machines. Thanks to Marta for links. Some of them I found by myself. The best way for us is glueing one picture to folder and laminating the other one. If Igor has them both laminated he might be throwing them around and then he has problem to dig for the proper one when he finds the second pair. His temperament does not allow to put them straight in line. Glueing lets us keep them in order.

Igor zakochał się w samochodach i maszynach budowlanych. Dzięki serdeczne dla Marty za udostępnienie plików. Cześć ilustracji znalazłem samodzielnie i powstała fajna kolekcja. Najlepsza dla nas wersja dopasowywania obrazków to taka, gdy jeden z nich jest przyklejony do folderu a drugi zalaminowany. Gdy Igor ma dwa obrazki laminowane wtedy giną one w gąszczu. Jego temperament nie pozwala jeszcze na układanie je w linii.  Przyklejanie obrazków pozwala zachować jakiś porządek.

Fruts and Vegatables Flash cards

There are few examples of flash cards we used to work with at early stages of our education. I made them by myself using googled pictures in high quality. They were shown very quickly as Doman describes. Later on I used them for picture - object matching. I spread them around the living room and prepare real fruit and vegetables on the table. Igor was running around with them placing on the cards. At the end he ate the banana.
